They were, just too soft, but molten lava cake soft, which isn’t
necessarily a bad thing just not what you are going for with brownies

and they better taste good too!!!

imparts, he’s just fun to watch. Love this show!!! Always have had an issue
with consistency in brownie baking…I know have the confidence to try
    again!! Thank you!

Love the amsterdam shirt. Perfect tie in to brownies…special ingredient

  17. abbyd711 on January 11, 2013: (Reply)

love the shirt BC. Jamaica would also work-Gonja brownies after the curry
chicken would be great 🙂 No problem Mon!

  18. Mayra Montes on January 12, 2013: (Reply)

Love the recipes, surprised B.C. didn’t win, but good try. 🙂

  19. tenapage on January 12, 2013: (Reply)

<<wayyyyyy jealous of ya'll chomping on brownies right now. swore ina's
recipe would have been awesome…how can you go wrong with like 18lbs of
butter and 6 lbs of chocolate? oh well. yummy episode.

  20. RecipeWars on January 15, 2013: (Reply)

If BC doesn’t bring a stellar recipe to the table, BC won’t win. He’s not
the only awesome chef on our show. Plus, his loss goes to show that
chocolate+butter do not always equal a great brownie.

  21. Mayra Montes on January 15, 2013: (Reply)

All the chefs are awesome. Love that they have different views on food.

  22. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

the flavor was awesome, but that much butter and chocolate sort of caused
the recipe to fall to pieces. Flavor=great, texture=weird

  23. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

We figured that those “in the know” would totally get the amsterdam t shirt

We actually like being on youtube. Networks are awesome, but by being

they can afford fancy cable packages. We like reaching all kinds of folks.

  25. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

Try again! Just don’t use Ina’s recipe. We had a consistency issue there.

  26. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

that he does. We’re working on that.

  27. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

exactly. There’s no way to lose when you’re eating delicious brownies

  28. RecipeWars on January 17, 2013: (Reply)

Buy a cheap 10 dollar kitchen scale at your local big box store. Measuring
by weight is the best for baking, and a good digital scale makes life so

  29. Sue Lo on January 22, 2013: (Reply)

i have never liked Brownies because it is always too sweet. i may like it
this time because of recipe wars.I will reduce sugar in formula and hope it
    comes out good

  30. RecipeWars on January 22, 2013: (Reply)

if you try a nice dark chocolate and cut the sugar a bit, you should get a
brownie that is rich, but not super sweet.

  31. Yaminia1 on January 26, 2013: (Reply)

BC always seems to win, odd to see him not for once =P Can anyone tell me
any others BC hasn’t won? Also, they looked awesome :3

    Mmhhm Brownies 3

  33. RecipeWars on January 28, 2013: (Reply)

BC didn’t win the pad thai recipe either. He also didn’t win French Onion
Soup, the flan episode, the chocolate souffle episode, and the chili
episode, just to name a few. BC’s a winner, but sometimes he picks recipes
    that just aren’t.

    Fine …. I’m a giant loser I said it… geez ….question why the desire
to see and know all the losses… just curious ?!? Plus they say you always
learn best from your losses and it is very true when it come to cooking.

  39. ChefBCfromDC on February 5, 2013: (Reply)

Please do it and then send us a batch for eating… I mean taste testing
… I mean I will consume them all and not share …. By the way you rock
Sue Lo thank you for all the love and support!!!

See, I like the old school heirloom scales. They look nice, and that is
what I learned on, but by all means for time, price, and dare I say,
accuracy go electric….. (NOOOOOOOO !!!! one hit wonder Neville
Livingston’ Electric slide just popped in my head)

  58. TouchyBanana on March 6, 2013: (Reply)

You guys screwed up on Ina’s brownies so much your batter was too thick
that’s why yours didn’t help up well

  59. RecipeWars on March 6, 2013: (Reply)

we followed the recipe exactly. Perhaps the food network version of the
recipe was screwed up a touch? It’s different from the version in her book.

  60. RecipeWars on March 6, 2013: (Reply)

the flavor was great, they just fell apart! Sometimes, we get surprise
    results. that’s half the fun.

  61. TouchyBanana on March 7, 2013: (Reply)

I meant the pan you guys use was too deep instead of like the baking trays
    that aren’t that high

  62. RecipeWars on March 7, 2013: (Reply)

we used the dish she suggested she used. the height of the dish shouldn’t
    effect the outcome this much.

One way to salvage an overcooked (not burned) brownie: Chop it into chunks
and throw it into a nice homemade chocolate ice cream!

ohh believe us, it didn’t go to waste. It may have ended up blended into

  66. jmmacb03 on March 9, 2013: (Reply)

Made Martha’s three times and now everyone is asking for double batches.
This time I am going to toast the walnuts. Perfect topping where no
frosting is needed. Cut lightly with a serrated knife to start and then a
warm, wet chef’s knife straight down and the topping doesn’t break down and

  67. jmmacb03 on March 9, 2013: (Reply)

Me again, sorry but BC you say “bad boy” in every episode…and it is rude
    to gesture with a utensile…

  68. jmmacb03 on March 9, 2013: (Reply)

Even try 70% chocolate that goes from dark to intense etc…not just the
semi-sweet bars that might already be too sweet…you are only good as your

  69. jmmacb03 on March 9, 2013: (Reply)

Just one more thing, if you take greater care with the parchment and fold
it to the width of the pan and not just crunch it in, the sides of all your
    brownies will be perfect.

  70. Gerardo Ayala on March 13, 2013: (Reply)

Sorry to say that I made the Ina brownies and they turn out just great not
the way that yours turn out, for me they are the best ones.

  71. RecipeWars on March 14, 2013: (Reply)

we’re so glad they worked for you! The recipe looks delicious in writing.
we really wanted it to work. What did you do differently? We’d love some

  72. RecipeWars on March 14, 2013: (Reply)

wow, lots of comments. We were more worried about taste of consistency than
the sides of our brownies being perfect, but you’re right, we definitely
could have taken greater care with our parchment. Sometimes we rush. If
you’ve watched a few episodes, you’ll see that BC isn’t the most polite. He
gestures with utensils, says “bad boy” a lot (we’re turning it into a
drinking game) and acts like an idiot. we like him anyway.

  73. Gerardo Ayala on March 14, 2013: (Reply)

Well the only thing that I saw was that I use a 13x18x1 nonstick pan with
baking spray and half way I tap the tray to the wire rack of the oven, and
let them for 35 min, I don’t have a picture but next time I will send you
    one with the final result.

  74. ButtercupBonnie on March 15, 2013: (Reply)

What??? You stress not to use a whisk.. then use a whisk for almost all of
    the recipe?!

  75. Chef Mel Yisrael on March 15, 2013: (Reply)

I DON’T GET IT, bcuz I made the INA GARTEN version and it came out
EXCELLENT for me to the point that I have taken orders for those particular
brownies so u must of did something incorrect along the way.

  76. Eva cibrian on April 7, 2013: (Reply)

Bc repeated what the girl say about he ovens….

  77. Influat on April 16, 2013: (Reply)

I do everything differently.. and mostly how you say not to. My brownies
are actually really soft, sweet and rich- to the point of people I don’t
even know offering me money to make them more. It’s so tiring when people
say ‘don’t do this’ because they heard from someone it wasn’t the ‘right’
way. Oof. People need to experiment and do what works for them.

  78. Samia R. on April 24, 2013: (Reply)

Are you thieving cupcake wars name?

  82. David Reitz on August 12, 2013: (Reply)

You used a whisk! The chocolate burned while over the boiling water. The
water was too hot… but if you used a rubber spatula the chocolate
    wouldn’t have burned.

  83. Fiona Rae on October 16, 2013: (Reply)

Hmm I tried out Ina Garten’s recipe too and yes they did turn out a little
crumbly. However, it wasn’t dry as there was the fudgy texture when you
chewed it; just that it didn’t hold that solid. One suggestion, is to
refrigerate the brownies for the cooling process. My second batch was
refrigerated and it held up much better. Though I’m still working on how to
modify this to make it less crumbly.
