Date Brownies
There is no added sugar as it is sweetened with dates and a little honey/agave. Very fudgy.
Ingredients
  1. 1 cup dried dates, finely chopped
  2. 2oz (50g) chocolate (80% cocoa) or unsweetened baking chocolate
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 2 tablespoons agave syrup or honey
  5. 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  6. 1/4 milk (low fat is fine)
  7. 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  8. 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  9. 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
  1. Put the chocolate into a medium sized bowl.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a hot water bath.
  3. Whisk in the eggs, one a time.
  4. In a small bowl, combine apple sauce, milk and honey/agave.
  5. Add the mixture to the chocolate egg mixture.
  6. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  7. Combine wet ingredients and dry ingredients.
  8. Stir in the finely chopped dates, making sure they are spread evenly in the batter.
  9. Pour batter into greased 8 inch baking tin.
  10. Bake about 20 minutes.
  11. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
