Date Brownies

Date Brownies
There is no added sugar as it is sweetened with dates and a little honey/agave. Very fudgy.
  1. 1 cup dried dates, finely chopped
  2. 2oz (50g) dark chocolate (80% cocoa) or unsweetened chocolate
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 2 tablespoons agave syrup or honey
  5. 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  6. 1/4 milk (low fat is fine)
  7. 3/4 cup wheat flour
  8. 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  9. 3/4 teaspoon powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  1. Put chocolate into a medium sized bowl.
  2. Melt chocolate in a hot water bath.
  3. Whisk in eggs, one at a time.
  4. In a small bowl, combine apple sauce, milk and honey/agave.
  5. Add mixture to the chocolate egg mixture.
  6. In another bowl, combine flour, powder and salt.
  7. Combine wet ingredients and dry ingredients.
  8. Stir in finely chopped dates, making sure they are spread evenly in the batter.
  9. Pour batter into greased 8 inch tin.
  10. Bake for about 20 minutes.
  11. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
