I think some episodes of YDIAW keeps you from going to your nearby mediocre
supermarket and to get the stuff from either Cost Plus World Market, or
Whole Foods to do the things the right way. Even though, I’m just saying
it. Almost all these episodes show us some good tips on how to make the
right this and that. Is it money saving? Hmm..not really; depending on if
you have something in your cabinet like Sriracha sauce, or Doritos. But if
the people who make these episodes like using good cocoa powder, or using
challah bread, or roasted coffee beans and a grinder to make the right
foods, then you gotta spend money on that. IMO, these are just options on
how to make the right foods, and you can follow it occasionally. So, take
the dry, squared brownies anyday; and when it’s your birthday, you can make
    good brownies. ;)

  29. Adrian Anderson on April 4, 2014: (Reply)

I swear people on youtube are retarded. The shape doesn’t define the
brownie.. it’s the ingredients and texture. And obviously when there are
more seasons to something with this sort of title. It doesn’t stay 100 to
the name. It may say ydiaw but it’s more like “what not to do” with some
tips and cooking hacks. People need to stop complaining about chow telling
them what to do. Seriously, if you didn’t want tips, then you shouldn’t
have watched an instructional video. It’s like going to school and saying
“don’t tell me what to know or how to learn it. You Don’t have to do
EXACTLY what she does. Just use these tips ad a guideline to make your
personal perfect brownie. I bet hers are better than most of your brownies
anyway. This is why I hate people. Fucking idiots

  30. Adrian Anderson on April 4, 2014: (Reply)

chow, I say you guys should rename the series to “cooking hacks and tips”
so people will stop bitching and moaning

  31. punchdrunkflame on April 5, 2014: (Reply)

there’s literally nothing wrong with a square baking pan. before you dump
your brownie batter into the pan, you can either grease it with some
nonstick spray, or line it with parchment, so you’ll be able to pull them
out really easily. both methods are foolproof.

P.S. if your brownies don’t have a cracked top with smooth interior, you’re
    doing it all wrong.

better at making a proper brownie instead of just showing “you’re doing it
    all wrong”.

Hey got milk! If you’re taking a bag of premade cookies that are terribly
hard, crunchy, or dry, and dunking it into some milk to serve as a desert,
    you’re doing it all wrong.

I find that Duncan Hines brownie mix is the best, most consistent brownie
mix you can buy at the grocery store. I’ve tried Betty Crocker, and the
fancy chocolate brand that begins with a G, and the only one that is easy
and always fudgy is the Duncan Hines one (I usually get dark chocolate
because it’s so much richer in chocolate flavor). I always add slightly
more cocoa powder and some ground coffee to accent the chocolate. And you
get the great brownie with the crispy top and fudgy, rich middle if you
don’t overcook it. Also, instead of using cupcake tins, you could just line
your brownie pan with parchment paper for easy removal and no sticking. I
find that usually, the thicker the batter, the fudgier the brownies. Just
some advice for people who are seeking it!

BLEED! Good job, chow 🙂 This was my first time making brownies, my
grandmother was in the hospital. She told me it would be wonderful, if
before she died shed taste something sweet id do homemade. I cried, and i
promised myself to make her brownies before anything bad happened. 🙁 I
never really knew how to cook anything. I was always the one in the family
who was a late bloomer, never really intrested in cooking and baking. But a
promise is a promise. I looked at a lot of youtube vids on this, thank you
very much 🙂 I finished my goal a week ago. With lots of practice. Yes I
know, your probably thinking, This bitch is over exagerating, making
brownies isnt that hard. But it was very hard for me 🙁 LOTS OF TRIAL AND
ERRORS. After looking at this, I finally did it awesome soft brownies 🙂
Delisious af x) Im 20 btw and my grandmother passed away 3 days ago 🙁

Using high-quality cocoa makes complete sense. I’m glad she pointed that
out. I used my regular good recipe (which had an even richer flavor with
the organic Dutch cocoa powder I bought at the health food store). Didn’t
like the brownies in cupcake liners, however. Too thick and cake-like. I
think brownies have the perfect texture when they’re about an inch thick.
But I liked her idea of turning the pan around halfway through the baking
process. I’ll pass on the coffee syrup, chocolate sauce, and sea salt. In
the video, her brownie resemble a chocolate molten cake. That’s fine, and
to each his own, but that’s not my idea of a brownie.
